Spanish speakers navigating CuidadoDeSalud.gov, the Spanish version of HealthCare.gov, are having difficulties saying the site is marred with many mistakes, according to the Associated Press.
CuidadoDeSalud.gov, a Web page launched more than two months late, links Spanish-speaking users to an English form. However, the translations were off and full of grammatical errors that, according to critics, must have been computer-generated.
For example, the site's name, CuidadoDeSalud.gov, could literally be read "for the caution of health," the Associated Press said.
"When you get into the details of the plans, it's not all written in Spanish. It's written in Spanglish, so we end up having to translate it for them," Adrian Madriz, a health care navigator who helps with enrollment in Miami, told MSN News.
These problems highlight the failed attempts of the U.S. government to get Spanish-speakers enrolled into the Affordable Care Act. According to critics, the website together with other seeming problems doesn't reach its intended target and even if it did, pose more problems than solve them.
Federal officials said everything's on the works to make CuidadoDeSalud.gov more accessible to Spanish-speakers. They said they're open to feedback to ensure better services for clients.
"We launched consumer-friendly Spanish online enrollment tools on CuidadoDeSalud.gov in December which represents one more way for Latinos to enroll in Marketplace plans," Richard Olague, Health and Human Services Department spokesman The Associated Press in an email. "Since the soft-launch, we continue to work closely with key stakeholders to get feedback in order to improve the experience for those consumers that use the website."
However, reports show that enrolling Hispanic populations to CuidadoDeSalud.gov, the Spanish counterpart of HealthCare.gov, have fallen short of its target. Critics said that if there were less error in the Spanish site, it could have helped boost the numbers of enrolled Spanish-speaking customers.
