A 6.4 magnitude earthquake shook the North of Puerto Rico on Monday and assumed to activate tsunami, as reported in the website of by U.S Geological Survey (USGS) and National Weather Service's Pacific Tsunami.
"There is the small possibility of a local tsunami that could affect coasts located usually no more than a hundred kilometers (63 miles) from the earthquake epicenter," the tsunami center said in its advisory. (Reuters)
The reported earthquake is at a depth of 27 kilometers below seabed stuck Puerto Rico by 11:01 p.m. There are reports of damage or loss of lives.
Similar earthquake had been recorded to struck the country including the 5.4 magnitude that shook US on March 2011.
Some felt the swaying of the house and appliances, 35 miles North of Hatillo, Puerto Rico. The northern coast has reported to feel the tremor. Dozens of people reported to experiences tremor, fallen items in their homes, in the City of San Juan. Some buildings were evacuated for the residents to be safe.
On Sunday, marked the fourth anniversary of the magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Haiti that killed 100, 000 casualties and set record of 1.5 million homeless.
