Man Killed over Texting at a Cinema in Florida

A man was killed in a gun shot inside The Grove 16 Theater in Florida, Monday.

According to witnesses, a retired Tampa police captain shoot the man sitting in front of him.

Curtis Reeves, 71, is now charge with second degree homicide after killing a 43-year-old Chad Oulson. A total of 25 movie-goers witnessed the horrible incident.

"'Somebody throws popcorn. I'm not sure who threw the popcorn," the witness said.

"And then bang! He was shot," he added.

The shooting happen when Reeves requested Oulson to stop texting inside the theater.

Oulson said that he was texting his 3-year-old daughter.

A moment later, the two starts to argue and someone threw popcorns. Reeves, sitting next to his wife took out his gun and fired at Oulson.

The police said that when Reeves took his gun, his wife tried to stop him but he refused and shot Oulson.

Oulson, together with his wife, was shot at the chest and his wife at the hand.

'I can't believe people would bring a pistol, a gun, to a movie," Charles Cummings, one of the witnesses said.

The gunshot created a ruckus inside the cinema.

Both Chad Oulson and his wife were taken to a hospital near Tampa but Chad did not make it.


Tampa Police spokewoman reported that Reeves is a retired captain from the department in 1993, currently working as security in Busch Gardens them park.

The police are still investigating how a man with a gun was allowed inside a cinema house. The theater is currently close for investigation. Police officers told the people that this was an isolated incident.  

The cinema released a statement this afternoon saying, "We are deeply saddened by the events that occurred earlier today, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families."
