Rajon Rondo could make his much-awaited return from a long recovery from a knee injury soon and the name of the superstar point guard is expected to float in several trade rumors before the deadline.
Rondo hinted through his official Twitter account that he could make his season debut in Boston Celtics' home game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday at the TD Garden.
The All-Star point guard tweeted "29,233,380 secs" on Monday night and ESPN reported that Rondo could be referring to his comeback on Friday.
According to the report, 29,233,380 seconds is almost equal to 338 days, which could be the number of days it took him to return since undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.
The 27-year-old point guard, who sustain a devastating ACL injury during their game against the Atlanta Hawks on January 25 last season, recently said that he will return to action before the 2014 All-Star Break.
Yahoo Sports, citing an anonymous source close to the situation, reported that Rondo is planning to return on January 17. The seven-year veteran initially denied the report, but his tweet could confirm that he is indeed looking to make his season debut against the Lakers.
Before Rondo posted his mysterious tweet, Celtics coach Brad Stevens also talked about the possible return date of the new face of the Celtics franchise.
"I get the impression, it will be sooner rather than later," Stevens said in an interview. "I'd be guessing. I think you could say possibly. It wouldn't be anything where I would be speaking with certainty."
With his return from a long recovery from a serious knee surgery imminent, trade talks about the former Kentucky standout are expected to be revived.
ESPN insider Chad Ford reported that the rebuilding Celtics could shop Rondo before the deadline for young and future assets.
"There is an increasing belief among NBA circles that GM Danny Ainge will use him, once healthy, to get multiple assets back. So the chances that he's the Celtics' cornerstone moving forward look slim," Ford reported.
Rondo was previously linked to the New York Knicks, who are reportedly looking to pair him with superstar forward Carmelo Anthony.
The Knicks will reportedly push for a trade or wait for Rondo to become a free agent in 2015, but it is widely believed that they will make a move soon due to the uncertain status of Anthony, who is set to hit free agency next summer.
