A shocking video taken at the scene of the Asiana Airlines crash in San Francisco in the summer of 2013 revealed firefighters fatally running over 16-year-old Ye Meng Yuan after they mistakenly thought she did not survive the crash.
The newly released footage from a camera rigged to one of the firetrucks showed firefighters who responded to the San Francisco plane crash telling truck drivers to go around the body of a Chinese student Ye Meng Yuan.
In the emergency team's frantic effort to reach the destroyed aircraft, however, the firefighters mistook the girl as dead and did not check her pulse to see if she was still alive.
Less than 15 minutes later, two trucks run over the would-be survivor.
The video released to the public does not explicitly show the trucks running over Ye Meng Yuan. However, CBS stated that the original recording, which reportedly includes the clip leaked into the internet, was obtained by the 16-year-old victim's family.
Ye Meng Yuan's family members obtained to footage, hoping that it could lead to the discovery of the person responsible for the teen's death.
Ye's parents have started efforts to sue and press charges against the city of San Francisco, claiming that emergency respondrs were poorly trained and reckless.
16-year-old Ye Meng Yuan was one of the three victims in the July 6, 2013 crash after the plane's pilot misjudged its landing. 304 passengers reportedly survived.
Authorities initially said that Ye was run over because her body was hiddden in foam that had been sprayed next to the destroyed plane.
The recently released video footage however suggested otherwise as the recording clearly showed the teen laying helpflessly on the ground while firefighters ignore her and run over her twice with two separate vehicles.
"What the family wants is accountability," the Ye family's attorney Justin Green told CBS.
