Farmers from Sichuan's Jianshe Village built a wall of money over their payout in annual bonuses from a village co-operative.
The money formed a 7-foot wall delivered by the military officials for the Chinese New Year.
The money was guarded by several residents before it was distributed for the next day, to protect it from thieves.
Jin, who guarded the money, told the local media, "We used 800,000 yuan as a mattress, 420,000 yuan as pillows, and put the others aside."
They claimed that it was not comfortable to sleep on top of the money because it was hard.
The money were bulky that the Chief Villager, Jing Hongyuan had a problem on where to store it. He transferred the money to the chief office to keep the money safe.
Jianshe village has profitable co-operative that invest in a small scale hydro power plants.
The village has 2,000 residents. There are 438 household inside the village, 340 of them, are shareholders of the co-operative. However, residents that do not participate in the co-operative were also given a division during the distribution.
Luckiest Villager, Jin Ou, received the most money at almost 300,000 yuan ($49,000) which was reported to be the highest.
According to Ou , "It's so cold, and I've been counting (cash) for the whole day, my fingers are all numb."
The report and photographs of the said wall surfaced the internet, causing local netizens to react negatively.
Some called the village a "tyrant village" and other compared it with Mao Zedong's rural revolution.
Other locals asked if they can take part in the co-operative so to receive the same bulk of money. Unfortunately, is impossible to take part in the co-operative since only the legal residents of the village are allowed to do so.
