A disabled Florida man experienced a shock when a deranged elderly Walmart customer started hitting him with his shopping cart after getting upset over too many items in the express checkout.
77-year-old William Golladay rammed another Walmart customer, 65-year-old John Malherbe, repeatedly with his shopping cart after the wheelchair-bound man attempted to purchase 22 items through the express checkout lane instead of the maximum 22.
According to a local news outlet, the altercation began when Golladay started counting, out loud, the number of items Malherbe wanted to purchase while they waited in line for their turn. The 77-year-old reportedly got more agitated when Malherbe would not reduce the number of items in his cart, resulting to the argument.
"He kept screaming about too many groceries and stuff," Malherbe told police officials. "And I said, 'What?' I think it was the shock, of 'What? Are you serious?' And I kept asking my wife, 'What?!'"
Malherbe was sitting in an electric wheelchair during the incident due to a recent knee surgery. However, this didn't prevent the frustrated Golladay from whacking the man with his shopping cart, injuring his arm.
"I'm getting the hell away from here," the 65-year-old victim said incredulously. "What the hell is this?"
An off-duty police officer saw the incident and restrained Golladay before he could do more damage.
"He wasn't going to quit," Malherbe said in an interview.
Officials arrested Golladay, who had only three items in his cart, and charged him with battery.
