Adrien Broner is aching to avenge his disappointing loss to Marcos Maidana, but the flamboyant American will have to wait as their highly-anticipated rematch is expected to be pushed back to a later date.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer announced last week that Broner exercised his rematch option and that the two fighters will collide once again either on April 19 or 26 in San Antonio or Texas.
However, Sebastian Cortusi, the manager of Maidana, announced that the reigning World Boxing Association welterweight champion will not be ready to put his title at stake on the proposed dates.
Cortusi pointed out that fighting in April is too early for the Argentine champion because Maidana usually takes six to ten weeks of rest after his previous fight before training again for his next fight.
"We just had an approaching telephone conversation with Al Haymon and I've let him know that April is too early. We don't know about Broner, but Maidana usually needs six weeks to rest and ten weeks for training camp, so there is not enough time to rest and train properly for a major fight in April," Cortusi said in a BoxingScene interview.

Aside from the lack of time to prepare for his first title defense, Maidana wants to stay away from boxing-related activities and spend more time with his girlfriend, who is scheduled to give birth to their daughter in mid-March.
"Maidana spent half of last year away from home training and his girlfriend is pregnant and expects for mid-March, so he wants to be present for his baby girl's birth. Those are the reasons," Cortusi stressed.
Maidana shocked the world last month when he scored a dominating unanimous decision victory over Broner in the WBA welterweight showdown in Texas.
The 30-year-old Argentine came into the match as a heavy underdog, but he managed to defy the odds as he stopped Broner in his tracks, handing the 24-year-old American the first defeat of his young boxing career.
Broner, who was knocked down in the second and eighth round of their previous showdown, recently admitted that he was outworked by Maidana, but he vowed that fight fans will see a different Broner in their rematch.
Golden Boy Promotions is expected to announce the new fight date in the next few days.
