A Hebrew nun gave birth to a healthy baby boy after claiming that she remained unaware of her pregnancy for the past several months, thinking it was only "stomach cramps."
The nun was rushed to a local hospital in Italy after complaining of cramps in her stomach area, Italian media reported.
The 31-year-old religious woman, who claimed she did not know she was pregnant, gave birth to a healthy, nine-pound baby boy in the medical institution she was rushed to for treatment.
A local news outlet confirmed that both mother and child are doing well and that other new mothers in the Rieti hospital in central Italy have started collecting clothes and necessities for her.
Her fellow Hebrew nuns at the Italian convent where a young nun just gave birth are reportedly "suprised" at the sudden turn of events.
"I did not know I was pregnant. I only felt a stomach pain," the Hebrew nun, who took a vow of chastity, reportedly said in an interview with a local media outlet.
The newborn boy has been given the name Francesco (Francis), the current Vatican Pope's chosen title.
The Hebrew nun who just gave birth belongs to the "Litte Disciples of Jesus" convent near Rieti. The convent has numerous charity projects which includes managing a home for retired men and women and geriatric patients.
According to local news reports, the Hebrew nun had apparently consented to keeping the baby boy.
