Samsung Galaxy S5, the South Korean brands upcoming Android heavyhitter, has been stirring up the mobile industry since the announcement of its release. Recent reports show that S5 is gearing up to be the most powerful smartphone to date, with a wide margin of upgrades compared to its predecessor, Samsung Galaxy S4. With S4 already one of the top contenders in the Android arena, would Galaxy S5's specs and features really be notably outstanding? Could it really surpass S4's overall functionality?
While it's a given that newer versions of tech products such as mobile phones should surpass their predecessors and fix their weaknesses, sometimes this isn't always how it goes. In the tech industry, there have been instances when refreshed versions of handsets disappoint after not meeting the performance and functionality standards set by their older versions. To compete with the ever-growing market, companies constantly test new and novel features that may come up short of the hype built around them soon after their release.
Experts however believe the same can't be said about Samsung Galaxy S5. Based on information about the handset, which is set to be released in February, S5 will prove worthy and exceed expectations, with the potential to come out on top in a fierce battle between iPhone 6, LG G Flex and HTC One 2.
Reports claim that South Korea-based Samsung intends to debut the handset at the Mobile World Congress in February. The actual release of the product in the market will coincide with Galaxy S4's timeline in 2013, which was around mid March to April.
One of the confirmed differences between the two smartphones is the introduction of finger-print sensor in Samsung Galaxy S5 after company officials decided to drop the Iris scanner biometric technology used in past S series handsets.
According to information that leaked on the internet, Samsung Galaxy S5 will boast QHD 2K display and a Quad HD 2560 x 1440 Super AMOLED display. S5 will be the first to feature Samsung's new display, with a significantly improved resolution compared to S4.
S5 will also reportedly run on a either Snapdragon 805 processor or Exynos 6 octa-core 64-bit, depending on the region in which it will be released. Samsung Galaxy S4 uses Exynos 5 Octa 5410,Quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7
Additional reported features that have fired up mobile enthusiasts are Android 4.4 KitKat and an outstanding 16MP camera that boasts ISOCELL technology. This is a significant step-up from Galaxy S4's Android OS, v4 2.2 (Jellybean) which though upgradable to v4.3, would still lag behind KitKat.
Sources are claiming that Samsung's S5 will be sporting at least 3,000mAh batteries. The South Korean company's officials have already confirmed bigger internal storage for the flagship handset.
Other information about Samsung's latest smartphone have yet to be disclosed but the rumors are coming in like a hoarde of zombies. One report claims S5 will be made available in two variants, one in plastic and one in metal, indicating that Samsung is branching out and aiming to dominate both the high end and low end market with its newest flagship handset.
There are many other Samsung Galaxy S5 specs and features that remain unclear, including whether it will sport a curved display akin to Samsung Galaxy Round and LG G Flex. The display size has yet to be confirmed but sources are saying it could be around 5 to 5.2 inches.
Judging which is the better phone of the two remain an open-ended battle for now with many of Samsung S5's specs and features still unconfirmed but based on sources, Samsung's latest flagship device is set to be one of the most powerful smartphones of 2014.
