Anderson Silva is not considering retirement after sustaining a gruesome leg injury during his rematch with Chris Weidman at UFC 168 last month in Las Vegas.
Silva, who is now recovering from a surgery that repaired a broken fibula and tibia in his left leg, said that he will definitely make a UFC comeback probably a year from now.
But before making his return to the Octagon, Silva said that he will push for a boxing match with former light heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr, who has been on his radar even before breaking his leg in December.
MMA Fighting reported that the Brazilian mixed martial arts superstar recently chatted through his official Facebook account, wherein he reaffirmed his desire to face the former boxing pound-for-pound king, saying that it could be his first step to his UFC comeback.
"When I get better, that's my biggest goal, especially because I won't be able to fight MMA too soon," Silva said when asked about the possibility of facing the 45-year-old boxer. "Fighting in boxing is in my plans, yes, as soon as I'm able to fight again. And Roy is a big idol."
Recent reports indicated that Silva's family tried to convince the 38-year-old Brazilian to forego his plan to fight again, but the MMA icon insisted that retirement is not yet in sight, expressing no doubt about his ability to return strong from the devastating injury.
"I respect and understand their concern, but that's something that has to come from my heart," Silva stressed. "That's not in my plans. I'm focused in my recovery, but I want to get back as soon as possible. That's who I am; it's part of my history. I'm 100 percent positive that I will be back."
The highly-talked about boxing match between Silva and Jones Jr. was being mulled by UFC president Dana White before Silva broke his leg in his rematch with Weidman.
White previously said that he would be more than willing to promote the showdown after Silva's rematch with his American tormentor, and it remains to be seen whether or not White is still interested in making the fight happen.
