Billy Cosby Returns on NBC in a New Family Comedy

 Billy Cosby is returning to NBC as a star in a new sitcom. 

The news was first reported by in Deadline and confirmed by NBC on Wednesday.

The new series is about a mutigenerational family where Cosby will portray the father. The series will be produced by Tom Werner who worked with Cosby with 'The Cosby Show". The show is based on Cosby's perspective regarding marriage and parenting and family.

Cosby starred in the "The Cosby Show" 14 years ago, where the show aired for 8 seasons from 1984 to 1992.  The show became the number sitcom in America that tackles the way of life, experiences of a wealthy African-American family.

The NBC is expecting a one and a half sitcom in which the 78-year-old comedian was also the one to write the script.

 His "The Cosby Show" was followed by another show, "Cosby" which aired on 1996.

He also worked in an animated series "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids ". The show was written by Tom Straw which runs from 1972 to 1985.

In an interview with Yahoo on November, he said that he wanted to be on television again.  Together with Werner, Cosby's aspire to reach a wide audience.

"They would like to see a married couple that acts like they love each other, warts and all, children who respect the parenting, and the comedy of people who make mistakes. Warmth and forgiveness. So I hope to get that opportunity, and I will deliver the best of Cosby, "said Cosby.

The details about the new series is still vague, however, the comedian is expected to play the role of a father or a grandfather in the series.

Cosby had been in different shows of NBC indicating his retuned on the network. He had been at "Late Show with David Letterman". His latest exposure was "Bill Cosby: Far From Finished", a stand-up comedy special aired last November.

Cosby and Werner wanted to reach a wide range of audience and seems like the two will try to reach that goal in their upcoming series.
