Microsoft founder Bill Gates has met his match.
23-year-old Magnus Carlsen added another coveted title to his already impressive resume: the man who destroyed Bill Gates in speed chess.
Carlsen, who recently took home the Norwegian world chess championship title, took only nine moves to checkmate Microsoft founder Bill Gates in a speed game aired on Friday, reported Reuters.
Challenged to the game of chess in a talk show hosted by famous Norwegian TV presenter Fredrik Skavlan, Gates told the crowd before the game that the challenge had "a predetermined outcome."
Bill Gates, who ranked second in Forbes magazine's list of richest people in the world just behind Mexico's Carlos Slim, was given 2 minutes to decide his moves while Carlsen was only afforded 30 seconds. The 58-year-old lost to Carlsen in about 1 minute and 20 seconds.
"Wow, that was fast," commented Gates to the 23-year-old, who was dubbed the "Justin Bieber of chess" by fans for his rockstar appeal.
The TV show, clips of which Reuters received prior to the actual airing date, was recorded in London on Wednesday, confirmed Norwegian TV NRK.
During the show, Skavlan asked Gates under what circumstances he felt intellectually inadequate to which the Microsoft founder replied, "When I play chess with him (Carlsen)."
The talk show was aired in Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
Hailed chess grandmaster at only 13, Carlsen has made appearances in several television shows in Norway after defeating defending champion Viswanathan Anand of India to take his first chess world title.
