Colin Kaepernick will not be playing at Super Bowl XLVIII after the San Francisco 49ers bowed down to the Seattle Seahawks in their NFC Championship showdown, but that doesn't mean that the popular quarterback made sure that he'll have a share of the spotlight.
Kaepernick broke his silence on the post-game comments of Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman after their 23-17 loss almost two weeks ago.
Sherman directed a choke sign to Kaepernick after he successfully tipped Kaepernick's pass to Michael Crabtree that led to an interception that sealed Seattle's place at Super Bowl 2014.
"I think everyone knows his comments were ridiculous," Kaepernick said via NY Post on Sherman's post-game rant on live television. "As my dad has always told me, if you have to tell people how good you are, then how good are you really? If you have to go on national TV and try to say you're the best cornerback in the league, then you've got your own insecurities."
The 26-year-old quarterback also added that he will not hesitate to throw another pass like that when the 49ers cross path with the Seahawks again next season, saying that Sherman is actually afraid of San Francisco's receivers.
"I'll take that matchup every day. I feel like he's afraid of our receivers, and that's something I look forward to exploiting next year," Kaepernick said.
And when asked to make a prediction on the upcoming showdown between the Seahawks and the Denver Broncos at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, Kaepernick unsurprisingly picked the Broncos.
Kaepernick admitted that the Seahawks have a suffocating nickel defense, but he strongly believes that the Broncos have enough artillery to match up well with the defensive unit of Seattle. The fourth-year QB also cited the Peyton Manning's experience will play a big role, and that the 37-year-old veteran will find a way to destroy their nemesis.
"They have the receivers to match up really well with [Seattle's] defensive backs, and they'll have opportunities to make some big plays," Kaepernick said. "From what I've seen of Denver, the depth they have at receiver and the playmakers they have on offense are better than some of the defensive players in the Seahawks' nickel defense."
