Arnold Schwarzenegger is dead at 66. At least that's what a lot of circulating reports are saying. However, the same reports also claim that the actor's death is nothing but another celebrity death hoax that has gone viral because of the rapid spread of fake news online.
According to The Nation, there is a circulating report that says Arnold Schwarzenegger has apparently died while he was on vacation with his family at the Zermatt ski resort in Switzerland.
The alleged report, which was also featured on the International Business Times was actually from the Global Associated News, a notorious site of fraudulent nature.
The site claims Arnold Schwarzenegger died after a snowboarding accident. "Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident earlier today - February 2, 2014. The actor & novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends. Witnesses indicate that Arnold Schwarzenegger lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed," the report reads.
Furthermore, the fake news was made believable because of some statements such as the idea that the actor-politician died from the impact of the crash despite wearing safety gear including a safety helmet. "Arnold Schwarzenegger was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death," the Global Associated News added.
Meanwhile, another site called Media Mass may have also heightened the tension the false report brings. The site, which was found out to be another hoax, claims that fans who read about the alleged death of Arnold Schwarzenegger quickly took it to social media to voice out their condolences and sympathy to the actor's family.
Nevertheless, both reports were slammed when it was found out that the same report was published in 2012 by Travelers Today. The site featured the false news by Media Mass which claimed that an "R.I.P. Arnold Schwarzenegger" Facebook page got a lot of attention on social media. However, the said page was reportedly non-existent, and many fans who read it criticized it right away. Additionally, One India also published a report about the said celebrity death hoax in 2012.
Hence, we can say that Arnold Schwarzenegger is the latest recurring victim of these circulating death hoaxes. He joins a long list of celebs who allegedly died in false reports including Lil Wayne, Tom Kenny, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Morgan Freeman, Will Smith, and many more.
