Emma Coronel Aispuro, the wife of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, has become even more popular after her husband was arrested in a drug bust Saturday.
A former beauty queen, Emma Coronel Aispuro was reportedly involved in the Saturday drug bust and was arrested along with her husband due to her connection to the ring.
Emma Coronel Aispuro, who was born in California and holds dual citizenship, is also related to Ignacio "Nacho" Coronel," a former partner of Guzman who died in a shootout with Mexican soldiers in July 2010.
Her dual citizenship as a Mexican and American has triggered speculation regarding her involvement in the Sinaloa cartel. American authorities have long since kept their eye on Guzman's family since he escaped from prison in 2001.
Alejandrina Gisselle Guzman Salazar, Guzman's daughter, was taken into police custody in 2010 after she tried to move across the border near Arizona.
Around 2011, Emma Coronel Aispuro came to the U.S. to give birth to Guzman's twin daughters though this remains unconfirmed since Aispuro left the father's name on their birth certificates blank. Authorities have however deduced that Guzman fathered the twin girls.
If it turns out that the woman arrested alongside Guzman was not his wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro's current whereabouts remain unknown to authorities.
