The 2013-14 NBA season could be the last season of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh together in Miami, but Heat president Pat Riley looks confident that their Big Three will continue playing in South Beach.
In an interview with the Sun-Sentinel, Riley did not directly talk about the possible free agency of James, Wade, and Bosh this summer.
But when pressed to talk about the future of the Big Three in Miami, particularly James, Riley said that he believes that the three superstars are in the right place in Miami.
Riley said that James wants to win, and he thinks the four-time Most Valuable Player knows that the Heat will give him the best chance to continue winning.
"He wants to win. And that's all it's about. All the other stuff that's flying around like butterflies, they're just things. And he deals with it as well as anybody," Riley said of James. "I'm so proud of him and Chris and Dwyane, that they're able to subjugate, really subjugate their games, and look what it's brought them."
The long-time Heat executive also talked about their failure to sign at least one of the possible impact free agents, who hit the market last week.
Riley admitted that they aggressively tried to acquire Caron Butler after the Milwaukee Bucks waived the veteran forward.
Reports indicated that the Heat and Butler share mutual interest about a reunion, but Butler ended up signing with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Heat also reportedly talked to former All-Star Danny Granger, who received a buyout after the Indiana Pacers traded him to the Philadelphia 76ers.
However, the Heat also failed in their bid to sign the veteran forward, who decided to ink a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Riley said that they indeed tried to lure both veterans, but both of them were looking for bigger roles, which they can't get in Miami due to the Heat's deep roster.
"I think when you look at our roster, and I think in our conversations with them, they wanted a meaningful role, and I don't blame them," Riley said. "And we're pretty deep. When you've got James Jones and Udonis Haslem and Rashard Lewis in those positions, they're waiting."
