Marcos Maidana Says Adrien Broner Is Stronger Than Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Marcos Maidana is confident that he can stand toe-to-toe with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their upcoming showdown on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Maidana is coming off a scintillating unanimous decision win over Adrien Broner in December last year, and the Argentine champion told BoxingScene that Broner looks stronger than Mayweather.

The reigning WBA welterweight champion said that Mayweather is absolutely a better fighter than Broner, but added that Broner is physically stronger than the reigning pound-for-pound king, expressing confidence that he can also handle Mayweather in their upcoming showdown.

"I believe that Mayweather is not as strong as Broner," Maidana said. "He is a better boxer [than Broner] but I think that he is not as strong. I believe that, because Broner felt very strong and I do not see Mayweather being like that. Also, Mayweather often goes against the ropes and that's where he's in danger."

Maidana, who knocked Broner down twice during their title showdown, vowed to train harder for the biggest fight of his 10-year professional boxing career.

The Buenos Aires native promised not to be intimidated by Mayweather's unbeaten record, declaring that he will fight with no fear and no respect for the reigning WBC welterweight champion in their title unification bout.

"I am going to train well, I am going to go out there and fight without fear and without respecting him. There are many boxers that when they are in the ring with Floyd, they are afraid. He is not going to intimidate me. I want to beat him," Maidana said.

Maidana also added that Mayweather had a lot of success in his previous fights because his opponents, like Canelo Alvarez, failed to put a lot of pressure on Mayweather's shoulder. In their upcoming showdown, Maidana vowed to press Mayweather like what he did in the Broner fight.

"Canelo Alvarez did not go after him. He didn't do anything and allowed Mayweather to work," Maidana said. "I always go out to press my rival, to corner him and to unload my punches, and with Mayweather I am going to do the same."
