Legendary boxer Marvin Hagler questioned Floyd Mayweather's choice of opponent, claiming that the reigning pound-for-pound might be ducking more deserving fighters.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Hagler cited Mayweather's decision to face Marcos Maidana in his next fight on May 3rd, saying that the unbeaten champion should have picked Khan instead of the Argentine champion.
"We have seen what has happened with Khan. Even this guy Maidana that Khan beat who he has given this fight next, this is all crazy stuff," Hagler said.
Khan was the favorite to land a date with Mayweather, and previous reports indicated that both camps have been negotiating details of the possible showdown.
However, the 37-year-old Mayweather had a sudden change of heart, opting to fight Maidana instead of Khan, who was obviously angered by Mayweather's decision.
Khan claimed that Mayweather is afraid of him, and Hagler pointed out that the Bolton native may be right, saying that the reigning welterweight champion should give Khan, and also Manny Pacquiao, a shot if he is really not afraid of both fighters like what he is saying.
"With Mayweather we have got to see if he retires and he hasn't given Manny Pacquiao a shot or given Khan a shot. There will be a conversation that maybe he was afraid of them," Hagler stressed.
Hagler added that Mayweather should stop his questionable way of picking opponents if he really wants to prove that he is the best in the business today.
The boxing legend pointed out that he made sure to fight the best in his division during his prime so that when he retires, he can feel good about himself.
"I believe the best way is to fight the top and the way my career led me was fighting the best so this way you feel good about yourself when you have finished because you know you did not duck anyone. You gave everyone an opportunity," Hagler said.
