Breast Feeding Overdose Kills Baby While Mom Gets 20 Years In Prison

Breast feeding overdose that caused the death of a six week old baby girl, urged the judge to sentenced the mother, Stephanie Greene, to 20 years in prison in South Carolina. The 39 year old mother was accused of overdosing her baby with morphine infused with her breast milk.

The case prosecutor detailed the crime to the South Carolina Court, saying that the mother, Stephanie Greene was taking painkillers while she was still pregnant, and also was breast feeding the baby. Evidence dictate that the mother knows the danger of taking the drugs, but still took them. She was also noted to conceal her pregnancy in order to get prescriptions from her doctors in order to acquire her medications. She also lost her nursing license for illegally acquiring the medications.

The mother was addressing the court that she only consumed the painkillers in order to relieve herself from the pain she was experiencing due to the car crash accident that happened a decade ago. She also did not consulted any medical expert on her current medications and situation.

Stephanie Greene's lawyers were interested in appealing for the case in the years that will follow. This would be the first time that a mother is convicted for a crime, murdering her won child with a deadly substance mixed in the milk that was provided through a mother's breast. There are no scientific proof pointing out the amount of contents from breast milk that can actually kill a child.

The baby was healthy during her birth and was named Alexis, by her parents. Stephanie Greene's husband did not commented on the details, but was saddened for the death of his child. Greene reported that her baby was unconscious on her bed with a call for help on 911. Investigations pointed out that the cause of death was overdose of morphine that was given through the breast milk of the mother.

The mother also has 2 children from her previous relationship and marriage.
