Amir Khan is looking to earn a multi-million dollar showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr., but trainer Freddie Roach said that the Briton could also end up facing Manny Pacquiao.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Roach said that a showdown between Pacquiao and Khan, who sparred several times when the Bolton native was still under Roach's watch, should not be ruled out.
"Never say never," Roach said when asked about the possible Pacquiao vs Khan match. "They sparred together quite a bit. Amir always does well in the early rounds but Manny always took charge in the second half of the fight when they sparred. But when they did spar it was fun to watch and very entertaining."
Roach was also asked whether or not it is possible that Pacquiao and Khan will collide in England. The Hall of Fame trainer said that he is unsure about it, saying that Pacquiao will command a lot of money before agreeing to face Khan in England.
"I'm not so sure it would be in England, even though Manny loves the place," Roach said. "He would want a truck load of money to fight there. It would most likely be in the US, if it ever happened."
Roach previously trained Khan, but had a falling out after Khan absorbed defeats against Lamont Peterson in December 2011, and against Danny Garcia in July 2012.
Roach admitted that he was offended by Khan's statement against him when the 27-year-old former champion decided to cut ties with him.
The 54-year-old trainer said that he had great plans for Khan, but the former light welterweight champion allegedly wanted Roach to prioritize him over Pacquiao.
"I'm just upset about why Amir had to talk bad about me, you know. I never did anything bad to him in my life," Roach lamented. "I just tried to help him the whole way through. He told me if I make him No 1 above Manny Pacquiao then he'll come back to me, but then all of a sudden it's my Parkinson's slowing me down."
Khan will make his return to the ring after a year-long layoff when he collides with Luis Collazo on May 3, while Pacquiao will face Timothy Bradley in a rematch on April 12 both at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
