The count of casualties in Wednesday morning's school stabbing is now up 22, with the victims ages raging from the youngest-14 up to 60 years old.
The culprit, 16 year old Alex Hribal had already been taken into custody.
Eye witness accounts recall seeing a young male, supposedly from the 10th grade, wielding two very lethal 8-inch long stainless steel kitchen knives.
He started on a rampage in Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, Pennsylvania just after school started- starting with the students in the crowded hallway, then moving on from one classroom to another.
It was pandemonium in the school when events started, a stampede broke out with kids trying to distance themselves as far away as they could from the attacker. In the confusion some of the victims-most of which were targeted in their lower abdomen-hadn't even realized that they had been stabbed.
The hero of the day was assistant principal Sam King who put a stop to the attack, tackling Hribal which allowed for the attacker to be 'cuffed and detained.
While most of the victims got away with mere scratches( brought about by the stampede that broke out) twenty students were rushed to the hospital with significant stab wounds to major organs. So far the reports have confirmed that they are all in stable conditions and will warrant full recovery.
While it is the physical ails that are being treated, the emotional trauma of the victims, and the entire community is also a concern.
Classes and all school functions will be stopped, Franklin Regional Senior High will be closed "over the next several days," said district school Superintendent Gennaro Piraino.
"The district's middle school and elementary schools will be open Thursday, and counseling will be available for the whole district."
There is still no clear reason or motive behind this attack but authorities are now looking into a threatening phone call conversation held between Hribal and another student the night prior.
He is going to be charged as an adult on several accounts; four counts of attempted homicide and 21 counts of assault.
