OpenSSL wulnerability threatens millions of websites in the internet including Yahoo with its newly discovered security bug. OpenSSL is an open source and cryptographic library which primarily functions to secure websites in the internet. Millions of websites are already affected with the security bug which is called "Heartbleed Bug".
The vulnerability of the OpenSSL may greatly impact sensitive data content stored on the website database. Researchers has already been in constant investigation over the "Heartbleed Bug" for more than 2 years, and have discovered that encrypted data sent over the internet are defenseless from being stolen. This means that delicate information and user passwords are not secured from any hacker attacks.
Other popular websites that are using Open SSL and are vulnerable against the "Heartbleed Bug" are Yahoo, Flickr, Imgur, Outbrain, Stackexchange, OKCupid, Wetransfer, Eventbrite, Stackoverflow, Kickass Torrents, Sogou, Popads, and many more.
One most compromising feature of the security bug is that attacks made to the website are hard to detect and that no actual trace of the act can be discovered, making the defect very easy to accomplish without any harm to the assailant.
More than half of web servers in the internet relies in OpenSSL, which are primarily utilized in servers, operating systems, email, and messaging systems. Its main purpose is to protect the information encoded to the system as it travels via the internet.
The Heartbleed Bug was first spotted by Codenomicon, a security firm who actually attacked their own servers in order to find the flaw. Based on reports, the firm stated that anyone that wants to exploit data from the internet can successfully access the memory of the server secured by OpenSSL.
OpenSSL recently released a newer version in order to fix the flaw, and its already available for download. Some tech companies also released indicators and analyzing software that can detect possible issues and vulnerabilities on servers using OpenSSL.
