Google currently released its new terms of service for Gmail this week, which clarifies to its users that the tech giant is going to scan email messages and content uploaded to their free email service. The new updated terms of service from the search engine empire raised alarms to its consumers.
Millions of Gmail users are definitely compelled to agree to the new terms of service imposed by the tech giant in order for them to utilize the widely used and famous free email service. The announcement was made on Monday by Google, which imposes the new prerogative status of their service. The new terms does not include any other changes that provides information on what other reasons the company plans to do with the email content, other than providing better product features for their popular email service. The changes were said to be crucial for features that includes customized search results, tailored advertising, spam and malware detection.
The new terms of service which came to a surprise for most users who read it, was an update version of the previously released TOSfrom Google on November 11, 2013. The tech giant also pointed out that they want to simplify their policies so that users may understand exactly what it says, according to a statement Google issued this week.
Google also added that all uploaded data, submissions, storage, and received content that passes through their service gives the company and those they work with a license worldwide to modify, use, host, store and reproduce so that the user data will work better with Gmail. This will allow the company and their service users to communicate, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute those content.
The main purpose of Google on their new terms of service is for the user to give them the rights and license for the limited purpose of operating, improving, and promoting their services, so that they can develop new services. This new developments tend to be an issue towards privacy of its users.
