Boxing News 2014: Bob Arum Shoots Down Rumors About Manny Pacquiao vs Adrien Broner Bout

Top Rank Promotions boss Bob Arum played down speculations that they would consider a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner.

In an interview with BoxingScene, Arum insisted that he can't see the fight happening even if Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions will agree to work alongside each other.

"As far as Broner is concerned, let's be honest about Broner," Arum said. "There's all this nonsense and all this media attention that he got."

Arum pointed out that fight fans will not be interested in a Pacquiao vs Broner showdown because the latter is not on the same level as Pacquiao especially after getting exposed by Marcos Maidana during their WBA welterweight title showdown in December last year.

The veteran promoter called Broner a "mediocre" fighter as proven by his loss to Maidana, and his unimpressive win against Carlos Molina on the undercard of the Mayweather vs Maidana showdown last week.

Arum said that Broner can call out Pacquiao as many times as he want, but he is firm on his stance that the 24-year-old Ohio native does not deserve a shot against the Filipino boxing icon.

"The kid is a mediocre fighter," Arum said of Broner. "I mean, he got exposed by Maidana. And then in his last fight against Molina, a guy who can't fight and hadn't fought for over a year, he struggled with the guy. So, I mean, he can call out Manny and so forth. The point is, he's not competitive with a Pacquiao."

Meanwhile, fight fans are still waiting for Broner to make a public apology after he was suspended by the World Boxing Council over his racial remarks in an interview after his fight against Molina.

Broner drew flak for his familiar "Can Man" remarks when he said: "Anybody can get it. Afri-Cans, I just beat the fuck out of a Mexi-Can."

WBC announced that Broner will be barred from participating in WBC-sanctioned events and will be excluded from WBC ratings until he clarifies what he meant with his rant or until he issues a public apology.
