As of the beginning of this month rumors of former child star Culkin's death from a supposed drug overdose started surfacing. The internet blew up with several sites confirming the death; fans took to twitter to express their grief over the actor's passing. The twittersphere was abuzz with the news, there was even a Facebook page called 'R.I.P. Macaulay Culkin' which had almost one million of 'likes'. Under the 'About' page there was this legit-sounding description: "At about 11 a.m. ET on Sunday (May 11, 2014), our beloved actor Macaulay Culkin passed away. Macaulay Culkin was born on August 26, 1980 in New York. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page." His fans immediately started responding with their messages of condolence on the page. While some people remained skeptical, as no major publication had confirmed the rumor, his fans were only reassured when Culkin's representatives finally rebutted the claims on Monday (May 12) after everything had gotten out of hand, perhaps only now feeling compelled-or the thought only occurring to them to satiate distraught fans with the statement; "He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet," they said. People no longer find this kind of thing amusing especially Culkin's fans who have been subjected to it more than once-the last Culkin death hoax happened last 2012. Other popular stars who have gone through this are Justin Bieber, Chloe Moretz, Beyonce Knoweles, Lil Wayne amongst many others. The cause of death in theses hoaxes vary some usually involving accidents while the stars are out vacationing during breaks from their work like falling off a cliff during a ski trip, or more realistically drug overdoses.
