Another torrent site bites the dust. Torrentz.EU, the largest torrent search engine to date, is no more after the City of London police succeeded with its request to block the torrent website all over Europe.
It seems one of the last few torrent sites in Europe has followed the fate of its Western counterpart, isoHunt. As of May 26th, 2014, Torrentz.EU is now inaccessible all over Europe, a sign that its domain name has been suspended indefinitely. While mirror links are still up and active, it is not known whether they can retain their place on the web as long as their .eu counterpart has done.
The City of London Police has been working alongside the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit or PIPCU and several copyright holders for some time now to slowly, but surely, remove websites that provide pirated content. Torrentz.eu is their most recent victim yet.
The Torrentz.EU team, however, is unfazed by the removal. The plan to move the main domain name to another domain name registrar is currently in the works.
Perhaps the most recent and most notorious removal of a torrent website all over Europe was inflicted upon ThePirateBay.Org. Today, ThePirateBay operates under a number of mirror links which are slowly being removed by authorities all over Europe.
