'X-Men: Days of Future Past' has opened to $90.7 million upon its domestic debut over three-day weekend, and while everyone seems to be pretty ecstatic of the film's amazing effects, storyline, acting and whatnot, there's one thing in the movie that has left most if not all viewers scratching their heads and raising their brows and that is Anna Paquin's split-second cameo.
All the reviews on the 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' are in, and every critic has either made fun or complained about the idea that instead of involving Anna Paquin's Rogue in the alluring storyline, she was only showcased as the girl who turned her head to face Logan after his life-changing, mental adventure courtesy of Kitty Pryde.
For Anna Paquin and the X-Men franchise fans, the production team of the blockbuster flick has already revealed a couple of days shy from its premiere date that Anna Paquin's Rogue will only have a small part in the new X-Men movie. In fact, it was way too small. At least they weren't lying.
According to the producers, Paquin's role had been largely removed from the movie, trimming not only her screen time but as well as her character's role in the epic storyline involving Dr. Bolivar Trask's Sentinels, Combicbook has learned.
Originally, the writers and makers of the film intended to have a big, set piece action sequence for Rogue, so that fans could now witness her power's full potential. However, the out-of-this-world, action-packed scene was removed for the main reason that "it didn't push the plot if the film forward."
According to Simon Kinberg, who dished about the intense scene to Collider, it was supposedly taking place at the early part of the movie, with Professor X and Magneto in the future attempting to rescue Rogue from a prison camp. Actually, part of the sequence did make it to the first trailer of the film, so in case you noticed that that part wasn't shown on the released film, now you know the reason why.
"The biggest chunk we took out of the film from first cut to final cut was the Rogue plot," Kinberg said. "And that was the sub-plot that has now been well-publicized, but that I created, not actually to bring Rogue into the movie, though that was a wonderful consequence, but more that I wanted to have-and this was in the early script phase-I wanted a mission for old Charles and old Erik, for Magneto and Xavier to go off on a mission together."
Just a heads up for die-hard fans though, Comicbook has learned that Rogue's amazing sequence will be included on the Blu-ray release of 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' so now you can't really say that Anna Paquin only did a cameo in the movie.
'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' which is currently in theaters, holds the second-biggest domestic opening throughout the 4-year history of the franchise. The top-grossing film among the X-Men films is 'X-Men: The Last Stand,' which opened to $102.8 million in 2006. Nevertheless, the Associated Press revealed that in terms of international appeal, Days of Future Past already stands at $27.8 million and has opened as no. 1 film in 119 countries.
