The New York Mets are reportedly in talks to acquire Colorado Rockies star Troy Tulowitzki, but no deal is imminent at this point as reports indicated that the shortstop is not interested in moving to the Mets.

According to John Heyman of CBS Sports, a deal between the Rockies and the Mets involving Tulowitzki will have to wait until winter because the 29-year-old wants to play with the Yankees not the Mets at this point.

The Mets are reportedly aware of their chances to acquire Tulowitzki and are already preparing to shift to their next option, which as a trade for Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzales.

"The Mets don't see themselves as likely to land Tulowitzki -- "he wants to be a Yankee" one Mets person said, stating what has becoming obvious -- so Gonzalez will presumably be the main focus of talks once they hook up," Heyman wrote.

The Yankees are expected to become very aggressive on the trade front before Thursday's deadline as they are still looking to shore up their starting rotation, which has been hit by a multitude of injuries this season.

Four of their original starters - CC Sabathia, Masahiro Tanaka, Ivan Nova, and Michael Pineda - are still out due to injuries. Sabathia will likely miss the remainder of the season, while Nova has already been ruled out for this year after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

But aside from shopping for additional hand, the Yankees are also open to adding batting options. Aside from Tulowitzki, reports confirmed that they are also targeting outfielders over the past several days.

"Upgrading starting pitching is a focus, but various media reports have also connected the Yanks to discussions of some level for outfielders Marlon Byrd (Phillies), Chris Denorfia (Padres), Alex Rios (Rangers) and Josh Willingham (Twins)," MLB.com's Bryan Hoch wrote.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi recently confirmed that he and general manager Brian Cashman have been looking to improve their roster in order to improve their post-season chances, but he said that he is giving Cashman more space to deal with roster moves.

"We talk on a daily basis anyway during the course of the day, so it doesn't really change much," Girardi said of Cashman. "I know he's always trying to improve our club, and I'm not going to keep bothering him and take up his time when there's things he's doing."
