Following the reports that comedian-host Joan Rivers was rushed to the hospital and was put into a medically induced coma after suffering cardiac arrest, Melissa Rivers, Joan's daughter publicly announced on August 30 that her mother was put on life support. Several days after, via Melissa's statement, the iconic comedian Joan Rivers died at the age of 81 on September 3.
Joan Rivers was an American actress, writer, producer, comedian and television host. She was best known for her stand-up comedy and for hosting the E!'s Fashion Police. She also worked alongside her daughter, Melissa Rivers in their reality series "Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best". Now, the entertainment realm mourns the death of a pioneering comedian, Joan Rivers.
Joan Rivers died at the age of 81 after she had moved from Mount Sinai Hospital's intensive care unit into a private room. She passed away peacefully the following day surrounded by family and close friends as per Melissa Rivers' public statement.
Prior to her death, the iconic comedian, Tony nominee and Emmy winner, Joan Rivers was abruptly hospitalized last Thursday morning in Manhattan, New York after she became unresponsive and had gone into cardiac arrest during an outpatient procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic. Various news sites reported that she was in the clinic to undergo vocal-cord surgery. She died Thursday afternoon at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Joan Rivers was recognized for her impudence, tenaciousness and enduring work tenet. Her tough-talking style of sardonic humor was both commended and critiqued as being ingenuous yet too personal, too gossipy and very often harsh.
