Serena Williams punctuated her remarkable run in the 2014 US Open Tennis with a dominating win against Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 6-3 in the women's final on Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

Williams was hardly threatened for the entire match as Wozniacki failed to get into her rhythm as she continuously chased the top-seeded American's powerful returns all-game long.

Wozniacki, who played in her first Grand Slam final since the 2009 US Open, had several chances to at least threaten Williams, but her good friend was just simply too much for her on Sunday night.

"When she's on her game it's not fun to play her," Wozniacki said in an interview. "You know, she's so strong. She has a good serve and she puts pressure on you straightaway."

The 10th-seeded Dane admitted after the match that she failed to execute her game plan throughout the match because she was just forced to react rather than taking the game into her favor.

"I had a game plan in mind, but it was kind of difficult at the start. I tried to push her back, but that really didn't work for me. She really just stepped in and she was playing aggressive. She was playing better than me today," Wozniacki said.

Williams was simply too much for any opponent in this year's tournament as she won title without dropping a set and did not lose more than three games in all 14 sets.

With the win, Williams finally won her 18th Grand Slam title, which put her in the level of Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova, who also won the same number of titles during their colorful careers. Steffi Graf holds the most number of Grand Slam titles with 22.

The 32-year-old American also won her sixth US Open title and her third straight to become the first woman to rule the event for three consecutive years since Evert won four straight from 1975 to 1978.

"It means a lot to me," Williams said of winning the title. "I just could never have imagined that I would be mentioned with Chris Evert or with Martina Navratilova, because I was just a kid with a dream and a racquet. Living in Compton, you know, this never happened before."
