Two workers stuck on World Trade Center - Two workers, who became stuck on a collapsed scaffolding on the 69th floor, while washing the windows of the new One World Trade Center, have been successfully rescued by firefighters.
New York Firefighters were able to rescue the two workers stuck on the new 1 World Trade Center. Officials had to cut through the glass of newly built skyscraper in order to get the workers to safety.
The rescue occurred on the south side of the 104 storey building. Reports indicate that the two workers, who were stuck on the World Trade Center, were tethered. They had finished cleaning the windows and were about to ascend to the top of the building when the scaffolding broke.
The broken scaffolding was reportedly hanging at a 75-degree angle. The two workers, who were stuck on the world trade center, were in communication with the rescue team during the entire time.
Mayor Bill de Blasio described the rescue of the two workers stuck on the World Trade Center as "an extraordinary effort."
Firefighters reportedly had to carefully cut through a glass a floor just below where the workers were stuck. In order to rescue the worker, who was dangling from the scaffolding, firefighters also had to bore a 6-feet tall hole into the glass of the building. The pieces of the broken glass were gathered into the building.
Reports indicate that after the workers were rescued - although they were not injured - the pair were immediately transported to the hospital for medical examination.
The new One World Trade Center opened for business just last week after years of reconstruction following the 2011 terrorist attack, which brought the buildings down.
