Kosta Karageorge, a 22 years old Ohio State University defensive tackle, who has been reported missing since Wednesday, was found dead on Sunday in a trash bin close to his rented apartment in Columbus.

Sergeant Richard Weiner, who announced this discovery to the press, revealed that Kosta Karrageorge's body was found during a search by local police. His tattoos reportedly aided in the identification of his body.

Kosta Karageorge died of a single gunshot wound, which the authorities say appears to be self inflicted. Weiner revealed that a pistol was recovered from the scene.

Kosta Karageorge was reported missing on Thursday. Relatives said he went for a walk at 2 a.m. on Wednesday and had not been seen since. His mother Susan told the police that Kosta Karageorge had sent her a message shortly before his disappearance apologizing for being an 'embarrassment.'  He also complained of struggling with the effects of the repeated sports-related concussions he suffered.

When he disappeared, Kosta Karageorge's relatives had been worried that he was lost and suffering from disorientation due to the effects of repeated concussions. Over the past week, friends and relatives have scoured through Grandview Heights, where a signal from his phone was last traced, to search for him.

Although Weiner hinted at suicide, an investigation is ongoing into the death of Kosta Karageorge.

OSU Athletics Department has released a statement expressing shock and sadness at the passing of the student and athlete. Kosta Karageorge, who also wrestled for OSU, was one of the players honored this past Saturday before the Buckeyes game against Michigan.

Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer has also extended condolences to the family of Kosta Karageorge. "He will be missed," the coach, who enjoyed a win this weekend, wrote on Twitter.
