SAG Awards Nominations List - The awards season finally heated up as the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) announced the nominees for the best film performances of the year. On Wednesday morning, actors Ansel Elgort and Eva Longoria announced the SAG nominees.

The nominations list for the 21^st Annual SAG Awards for 2014's outstanding performances in five film and eight television categories have been finally revealed along with the SAG Awards honors for outstanding action performances by film and television stunt ensembles. The Broadway World said the nominees were announced Dec. 10 at the Pacific Design Center's SilverScreen Theater in West Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Among the biggest contenders in the SAG Awards nominations list is "Birdman." According to the Los Angeles Times, the film stood a good chance of getting the four nominations for best ensemble, best actor, best supporting actor and best supporting actress.

This year, "Nightcrawler" actor Jake Gyllenhaal, "Cake" star Jennifer Aniston and "St. Vincent" actress Naomi Watts made a surprising nod as they were chosen to be in the SAG Awards nominations list. While "Selma," Hilary Swank for "The Homesman," Kerry Washington for "Scandal" and HBO's "True Detective" were among this year's biggest snubs.

It is quite surprising that "Scandal" star Kerry Washington did not get nominated for playing one of the strongest women on television. Meanwhile, the HBO series "True Detective" missed out the ensemble nod. Though it's not shocking, Variety said the series could have recognized for the quality of storytelling it depicted on its first season.

According to SAG, 2,200 of the guild's 165,000 members were randomly chosen to serve on the film nominating committee this year. While online voting is encouraged, the final voting information will be mailed through postcard on Dec. 16, Tuesday to eligible SAG-AFTRA members across the nation. All votes must be received at Integrity Voting Systems by noon on Jan. 23.

The results of the SAG Awards nominations list 2014 will be tallied and sealed until the envelopes are opened by the presenters at the 21^st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony on Jan. 25, 2015. It will be simulcast live nationally on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. (ET) and 5 p.m. (PT) from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center.
