Craig Wayne Boyd has been declared The Voice winner 2014, after thrilling the audience to wonderful performances.
On Tuesday night in Dallas, Craig Wayne Boyd was given the crown of the converted NBC music show, The Voice. He beat three other top finalists for the prize.
Commentators say Boyd, who was considered an underdog, deserved the win after pulling off spectacular performances during Monday's finale. He sang My Baby's Got a Smile on Her Face, an original song, which his coach, Blake Shelton, reportedly gave him from his personal archive music.
Craig Wayne Boyd also performed a cover of Alabama's In Pictures - a sincere piece dedicated to his son.
"The underdog in the finals takes the trophy!" said host Carson Daly after the Texas native was declared The Voice Winner 2014.
The 35-year-old country singer was excited and shed tears after winning the crown. His prize includes a record deal and a $100,000 grand prize.
"Welcome to your future," singer and judge Pharrell Williams said to Craig Wayne Boyd The Voice Winner 2014.
According to reports, this season of The Voice was indeed very competitive. There was a close race between R&B singer Damien and pop rockers Chris Jamison and Matt McAndrew.
Unlike other music talent shows, the winner of The Voice is judged based on audience votes and iTunes sales of each performance.
The original songs that the contestants perform on the show are immediately uploaded to iTunes for sale. While Craig Wayne Boyd's songs have generally done well this season, iTunes charts show that after Monday night's performance, he was ranked high on the Top 10.
"It's crazy. Hard to believe and exciting," Cindy Willis, Craig Wayne Boyd's mother said. "It's something that he has worked really hard for and I am proud of him."
She also thanked the fans who voted for Boyd, saying that his love for music and thrilling audiences has been evident since he was a little boy. "He would go to kindergarten and he would sing at school. He would come home and play on the piano with one finger the songs he had played that day," Willis added.
The finale of 'The Voice 2014' also featured guest appearances from Bruno Mars, Chris Jamison, Ed Sheeran and Hozier.
