Olga Filkin - A Brooklyn woman has died after falling 25 feet from a chairlift on a ski area at Hunter Mountain in Greene County, NY.

Reports indicate that the woman, who has been identified as 44-year-old Olga Filkin, a resident of Midwood Brooklyn, lost her life after accidentally slipping from the lift on Sunday around 2 p.m.

The victim is believed to have fallen about 25 feet to the ground after slipping from the "D" lift, which is a triple chair that carries snowboarders and skiers from the base of the mountain half way up.

Olga Filkin is said to have landed at the bottom of the tower lift and was soon after treated on the scene by Ski Patrol and thereafter transported to the resort's first aid room, where she was confirmed dead.

According to the coroner Hassan Basagic III, Ola Filkin is survived by her husband and teenage daughter.

"She was getting ready to get off the chairlift and she fell," Basagic said.

"This is a terrible tragedy," said Russ Coloton, the president of the resort. "We can only imagine what the family is going through, and we stand ready to assist them in any way that we can."

According to local reports, on Monday an autopsy, which was carried out at St. Peter's Hospital, has ruled that Olga Filkin's death was caused by an accident and is consistent with a fall.

New York Police officials agree with the results of the autopsy. However, authorities say an investigation into what may have led to the tragic accident will be conducted.

Reports indicate that on Monday the coroner's office was still waiting for the results from drug and alcohol tests on the victim - although officials think this may not have played a role in the case.
