The Oregon Ducks and Florida State Seminoles, two highly-reputed football programs in history, will usher the new chapter for college football as they duke it out in the first of Thursday's double-header College Football Playoffs at Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

What's on the Line?

For the Ducks, the game is all about finally breaking a series of misfortunes the past few years, as their quacks turn into chokes each time they are on the cusp of winning a BCS championship.

With Heisman winner Marcus Mariota leading the way, Oregon is coming into Thursday's showdown with the undefeated Seminoles with a level of confidence previous Ducks teams never reached during their title-chasing campaigns.

As good as a Heisman trophy winner he can be, Mariota's laid-back, soft-spoken attributes is expected to be overshadowed by his grit and determination to lead the Ducks to a place they've never been in their rich football history.

On the other side of the coin, the Seminoles are aiming to create a dynasty in College Football with Jamies Winston leading the charge for a rare back-to-back title.

Winston, who also won a Heisman Trophy last year, has been through a lot of troubles this season, but he seems to overcome all of these adversities the same way the Seminoles has done throughout the season.

In spite coming off the preseason as the unanimous no.1 program in the country, Florida State's mettle had been tested countless of times by upstart teams, but their championship poise never failed to bail them out of potential season-ruining loss.

Ice & Fire Collide:

Every time hot and cold airs come across, a storm will always bob out of nowhere and wreck havoc. That scenario will most likely happen when the previous Heisman trophy winners go head-to-head in what many expect a night that will define the career of these talented gentlemen.

As cool as ice, Mariota will try to prove that he's the best signal-caller in college by driving the nation's 11th best passing offense (308.9 yards per game) to a statement win in Pasadena. Meanwhile, Winston hopes his fiery attitude is enough to slice through Oregon's defense (29th in the country at 22.5 points against per game) like a hot knife on the butter.
