At the Fort Hood job fair this past Thursday, companies had their eye out for soldiers now searching for civilian jobs. More employers are looking to hire military men in search of civilian jobs.
Four thousand people attended the fair in hopes of landing a job. Within the crowd of applicants were numerous soldiers. With the military reducing the amount of troops out on the field, they are returning and hoping to enter the job market.
The General Electric Manufacturing Solutions were one of the employers at the fair. The company is looking to hire over 500 new employees by next year. They are searching for skilled workers to staff their new facility in Fort Worth, Texas. General Electric continues to take applications for onsite staff to get the facility going.
The company has been in business for 107 years and is said to have created close to 13,000 jobs since 2009. The company spent close to $96 million in building the new manufacturing plant in Fort Worth.
Unemployment is not as high in the Bell County area of Texas in comparison to many other counties in the country. However, the large turnout of job seekers showed that competition is fierce in the area.
The Fort Hood career fair occurred only several months after Fort Hood hosted another job fair. The 2012 Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse event took place this past March. The job fair specifically targeted military spouses searching for jobs. Job seekers included both husbands and wives of veterans, those serving in the guard and reserve, and those currently in active duty.
