More than 100,000 fans are expected to attend the 2015 Comic Con in San Diego. This event is a massive, annual convention originally started for comic book fans and creators.

The change is quite noticeable over the years. The recent comic con events have already become venues for Hollywood marketing — promoting TV shows and celebrities other than comic-related movies.

Others said that it has been revolutionized into a convention focusing on Hall H where companies like Warner Bros. and Marvel do their presentation to promote their upcoming films. The comic sellers, on the other hand, are being placed into the far end corners of the center.

Kelly Sue DeConnick, writer of Marvel's "Captain Marvel," has mixed feelings about this evolution. She said that you couldn't be negative on something that people are enthusiastic about, to the extent that they will camp out the night before the event, 89.3 KPCC has learned.

"It used to be more casual and it used to be a lot more about the books, and now there's a lot more emphasis on other media and the industry hustle," she said in an interview.

There have been changes in women participation in the event. Before, there were only one or two females on the "Women in Comics" panels.

In the recent New York Comic Con, there were so many women on stage that DeConnick literally had no place to sit. She had to sit on the floor — a sign of progress.

Jeetendr Sehdev, marketing professor at the University of Southern California, said that Comic Con is becoming more corporate. Fans may not like the presence of car companies and insurer State Farms, but that's part of pop culture changing.

Across the street from Petco Park, Lexus' lot will be transformed into an interactive zone that will showcase different shows and games, according to Fox 5.

Meanwhile, fans are hoping to see "Batman V Superman" stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill suit up. There are no confirmations yet if this is going to happen, but the stars will definitely be there for the panel.

Jennifer Lawrence, who stars as Katniss Everdeen in "Mockingjay Part 2," may be in town to promote the film, BBC reports.

This big event will run from July 8 - 12.
