Nintendo’s ‘Super Mario Maker’ For Wii U Challenges Gamers To Create Crazy Stages For Mario

In preparation for the 30th anniversary of "Super Mario Bros.," game developer Nintendo is gearing up for the release of "Super Mario Maker" scheduled for Sept. 11.
This upcoming Wii U-exclusive title is a content-creator game that will let players build their own versions of "Super Mario" stages. Using the Wii U GamePad, gamers can draw inspiration from various games including "Super Mario Bros.," "Super Mario Bros. 3," "Super Mario World" and "New Super Mario Bros. U" to build their levels, according to IBN Live.
The main concept of the game is to give gamers the freedom to incorporate as many elements, obstacles, power-ups and enemies as they can in a "Super Mario" stage.
They can then try out the levels they have created by playing through it as the titular character or share them online with their friends. These shared levels can also be tweaked and edited by other gamers.
Although the game's official release is still more than a month away, various gamers and organizations were already able to get their hands on "Super Mario Maker." One of these is Facebook during the recent Hackathon event, Wired reported.
The event was conducted as part of a partnership between Nintendo and Facebook for the promotion of the game.
For the "Super Mario Maker" Hackathon, over 150 staff members from the social media giant participated in playing the game and creating their own levels. The employees were divided into several teams with the task of creating the craziest and most creative "Super Mario" level that features Facebook's characteristics.
Over 40 entries or stages were submitted during the event. The winning team will be given the chance to create a stage which will be featured during the launch of "Super Mario Maker" in September.
Aside from Facebook, employees of gaming news site IGN also crafted their own unique "Super Mario" stages using the upcoming Wii U game. These levels will be presented during a special two-hour live stream event happening on July 31 at 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. PT.
