"Fast and Furious 8" Spoilers Update - After the record-breaking success of the latest "Fast and Furious" sequel, "Furious 7," executive producer and one of the film's protagonists Vin Diesel has announced that the next installment for the film franchise is already underway.
"Fast and Furious 8" is set for release on Apr. 14, 2017, and here are 3 interesting details about Diesel's upcoming flick.
1. "Fast and Furious" 8 will have a new director. Though the previous film that made over $1.5 billion was helmed by James Wan, the upcoming sequel is reportedly going to be directed by Justin Lin. According to Classicalite, Lin headed the last several films in the "Fast and Furious" series leading to "Furious 7."
While most fans would think that Wan will be the director of the much-anticipated sequel following the most lucrative success of "Furious 7," Vin Diesel's latest Instagram post hinted he didn't enlist Wan for the upcoming film.
2. Even though Paul Walker's character was not killed in "Furious 7," "Fast and Furious 8" will no longer use Walker's CGI version. Franchise producer Neal Moritz recently confirmed that they won't be utilizing the character of the late Paul Walker's Brian O'Conner.
Additionally, it was also decided that "Fast and Furious 8" will begin anew with a different plotline that will not need the presence of O'Conner nor his on-screen wife Jordana Brewster, The Bit Bag noted.
"We're trying to do what we always do, which is try to come at it from a character point of view and figure out where the characters would go from here," Moritz said in an interview with Screenrant. "We're lucky that we have a lot of great characters. Unfortunately, we don't have Paul anymore. His character... has moved on. But we feel like there's a lot still to be mined. That's where we're starting. We're really talking about the characters, where they all sit right now. It's a huge challenge."
In a separate interview, Vin Diesel shared that they are continuing the series because of Walker. When he was alive, Walker confirmed that "Fast and Furious 8" is definitely happening. So, producers believed that it is only proper to realize his statement.
"Paul used to say that 8 was guaranteed and, in some ways, when your brother guarantees something, you have to make sure it comes to pass," Diesel said. "So, if fate has it - fate, F8 - then you'll get it. Furious 7 was for Paul; 8 is from Paul."
3. "Fast and Furious 8" confirmed the return of Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson, along with most of the original cast including Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson, Movie News Guide reported. While Kurt Russel, who plays Mr. Nobody, may play a significant role in the sequel. And rumor has it that Walker's brother, Cody, will play Jack O'Conner, The Gospel Herald hinted.
