"Vampire Diaries" Season 7 is going to bring a lot of surprises on the table for loyal fans, who are wishing to see more developments in the storylines of other characters, like Matthew Davis' Alaric. And it appears that fans will really get to see more of Alaric this upcoming season. The only problem though is the fact that his storyline is going to be very depressing.

Realty Today recently reported that Alaric is going to suffer from grief and the loss of the people he valued last season. It can be noted that Alaric's wife and unborn child previously passed away. Add to that the disappearance of Elena Gilbert from now on and Alaric's storyline is doomed to be very painful and upsetting.

The repercussions of the events last season will take a toll on Alaric, leading him to turn to alcohol for consolation. However, it's not only alcohol that will play a major part in Alaric's storyline in "Vampire Diaries" Season 7.

Show executive producer Julie Plec revealed that Davis' character will turn to all sorts of things, including witchcraft.

Speaking with Zap2It, Plec said, "This is not an easy transition for him. He's already been through so much and now he's going through this. This is about as horrible and despicable a thing that could happen. He's not going to recover so easily."

Plec then went on to say, "He's going to explore his grief in some unconventional ways involving a lot of booze and some secret desires that involve physics and witches and try to contact the dead and God knows what else."

Meanwhile, following the departure of actress Nina Dobrev from the hit CW series, the show has decided to introduce more characters into the show. So far the only confirmed additional cast comprised Justice Leak (Malcolm), Tim Kang (Oscar), Todd Lasance (Julian) and Jaiden Kaiden (Zoo), as per Entertainment Weekly.

Other confirmed cast additions include "Satisfaction" star Oliver Ackland (Tristan), "The Walking Dead" star Lawrence Kao (Van) and "Pretty Little Liars" star Rebecca Breeds (Aurora).

"Vampire Diaries" Season 7 stars Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Candice Accola, Zach Roerig and Kat Graham among others.

Venture Capital Post has learned that "Vampire Diaries" is set to premiere in fall, specifically on Oct. 8, at 8 p.m. EDT.
