Anroid creator Google has announced recently that they are releasing a software update for the Nexus 7 tablet that will add in support for their mobile payment system, Google Wallet.
This will enable owners of the first Nexus Android -- Google Nexus 7 to use Google Wallet to pay for goods and services in the same way as their Android smartphone. The company announced the new software update using the service's official Google Plus account.
Google Wallet's team announcement said, "We're excited to announce that an update is being pushed to Nexus 7 to allow you to use the Google Wallet app on the device. If you're carrying this thin, ultraportable tablet in your backpack or purse, you can now tap, pay and save with Google Wallet!"
Google Wallet is the company's service that can transform mobile devices into an advanced credit card/debit card. Users can save their bank cards, loyalty cards, etc and with a compatible smartphone or tablet, including the Nexus 7, the app takes advantage of Near Field Communication to "make secure payments fast and convenient" by simply tapping the phone on any compatible terminal.
Google-branded Asus-made Nexus 7 was launched later month and is now available to purchase online via the Google Play Store and other third-party online retailers. Some brick and mortar stores in United States also offer the device. The Nexus 7 is arguably the most popular Android tablet right now thanks to its inexpensive tag price of just $199.99 for the 8GB model and $249.99 for the 16GB variant.
As far as specs are concerned, Nexus 7 will pack a 7-inch display (with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution) in "Scratch-resistant Corning glass", 1.2MP front-facing camera and built-in NFC, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities.
The tablet will come powered by Nvidia's Tegra 3 chip, which has a quad-core processor, 12-core graphics chip, 1GB RAM and will come preinstalled with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. The Nexus 7 weighs 340 grams, has a dimension of 198.5 x 120 x 10.5 mm and is loaded with 4325mAh battery.
