The FBI raided the home of Tony Mack, the Mayor of Trenton, N.J. Wednesday.
After acknowledging to Trenton police that they would raid the Mayor's home, 10 FBI agents rummaged through Mack's household, taking two boxes away from the investigation. The search occurred before dawn and ended by around 6:15 a.m.
The reason for the FBI search has not been released and is unknown. Not much has been speculated about the cause of the raid, as Mack has not been targeted for any crimes to date, according to the Times of Trenton.
"We have not violated the public trust in any way," said Mack.
Mack's term as mayor of Trenton has been a difficult two years as the city has faced a budget crisis that has resulted in lots of job loss. Additionally, Mack's Cabinet has seen various appointments, and the city has faced numerous lawsuits.
In addition to Mack's home being raided, FBI agents also searched the home of Mack's brother, Ralphiel Mack, and that of a campaign contributor who resides in Ewing.
The Ewing residence is the home of Joseph "JoJo" Giorgianni, a convicted child molester who contributed thousands of dollars to Mack's mayoral election campaign only two years prior.
No arrests have been made and none of the residents have charges filed against them.
