"The Vampire Diaries" actor Ian Somerhalder married "Twilight" alum Nikki Reed last April and the vampire couple's gorgeous wedding pictures were only revealed at this moment.

People has learned that the couple began their romance when they were spotted in each others company July last year. When January came, Ian proposed and they got engaged and by April the two tied the knot.

Brides gave an exclusive peek at the couple's secret wedding in their October/November 2015 issue.

Ian and Nikki opted for a low key affair instead of a high-profile one. In fact, their wedding was a surprise for their closest friends and family. Guests were instead informed that they were attending a glorious housewarming party, but, to their bewilderment, after reaching a shuttle location, they were ferried to a site in Topanga Canyon, California, where the secret ceremony of Ian and Nikki will take place.

According to Hollywood Life, although the event was low key, the couple did not scrimp on the backyard reception. With the aid of Andrea Freeman, their wedding planner, they were able to pull off an authentic theme of combining “the freewheeling, sun-soaked energy of their favorite music festivals (they’re Coachella diehards) with New Orlean’s unique, soulful vibe.” Nina Dobrev’s ex lover is from New Orleans.

As for the cocktails served in the party, the married couple each designed a special drink for the guests. Nikki’s drink contained a pear vodka, while husband Ian’s was a spicy hibiscus margarita. The newly married actress stated that their wedding was more on “about the food, the dancing and the love.”

Meanwhile, Just Jared gave a rundown of what transpired in the Ian and Nikki’s wedding.

Nikki, 27, who was previously married to “American Idol” alum Paul McDonald, “wanted a Louisiana backyard-barbecue feel,” and “a dance floor for our closest friends and family.”

Most importantly, she raved about Claire Pettibone who created her beautiful wedding dress. “Claire [Pettibone] was an absolute dream to work with. Not only is she an amazing designer, but she has the most wonderful energy. We were on the same page from the moment we met.”

For the music, Ellis Hall performed live for the newly married couple and their guests. Nikki said, “Live music is so important to us.”

So what’s with the surprise wedding? She said, she and Ian wanted a small and intimate wedding. “We didn’t want our loved ones to show up with any expectations or squeezed into formal attire.”
