The Duggars are fighting back online! After receiving backlash for allegedly spending their mission funds on luxury, "19 Kids and Counting couple Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard have now addressed the issue by simply updating their Instagram and Twitter accounts, as well as their family blog.
On Friday, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's wife shared a snap of their missionary work on her Instagram account. Apart from the photo, she also wrote a meaningful message for her followers and fans to to extend their prayers to the people they visited during their overseas "religious work."
Her message read: "#TBT to our month on the mission field in Central AmericaMy heart aches for the hardships these people are facing daily due to pressure and violence from the gangs. Please pray for their safety! We look forward to returning there to continue ministering after language school!"
Jill Duggar added a verse from the Bible saying: "Jesus says, 'The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.'(John 10:10, 11 ESV)."
Her husband Derick also addressed the issue by tweeting: "'Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.' - Proverbs 10:9."
Dillard also updated their family blog, emphasizing that their trip to the U.S. was very important since they had to take care of several things there. He wrote: "Jill, Israel, and I recently arrived back in the States for a planned, month long trip to take care of some things and enjoy time with family and friends while we're here, before heading back to Central America."
The couple's posts came after they received a lot of backlash over their missionary work. Jill Duggar and Derick were reportedly being questioned by fans if they were really spending their donated money on missionary work and not funding their personal travel and leisure.
The speculations that they were spending the donations their tax-exempt organization, the Dillard Family Ministries, gathered for their own personal gain reached an all-time high when it was found out that Jill Duggar and her family have been to the United States twice since leaving for their El Salvador mission on July 5, ET Online has learned.
The first trip was said to be for the couple's attendance at Amy Duggar's wedding in Bentonville, Arkansas and the other was during Michaela Bates wedding to Brandon Keilen in Knowxville, Tennessee.
Fans who doubted the nature of Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard's trips took to Facebook to question the couple where the donations are going. Facebook user Cindy Coles Sullivan wrote: "How do you afford to fly back and forth so often, on our donations? If that's the case I cant donate anymore..."
Sherrie Kelly commented: "Must be nice to go on an extended vacation an flying back an forth on other people's hard earned money. You know money they WORKED for something you people know nothing about!"
Sheri Taylor Fowler exclaimed: "Must be nice to fly here and there....keep begging for that money!"
