"Gotham" season 2 premiere is upon us, and it will feature a plethora of villains, hence, the theme "The Rise of the Villains."
The "Gotham" season 2 baddies that have been known so far are Penguin, Catwoman, Riddler, Two Face, The Joker, Tigress, Firefly, Mr. Freeze, Clayface and Mad Hatter, according to Tech Times. Among the villains, though, it's undeniable that Joker is the most popular.
There have been speculations — neither confirmed nor denied — that Jerome Valeska, played by Cameron Monaghan, will eventually become the Joker. While we are waiting for some answers from the show, let's take a little detour and get to know Monaghan, the actor behind the alleged future nemesis of Batman.
1. Family matters to him.
Other than "Gotham," he also stars in the TV drama series "Shameless," and during his interview with NewNowNext.com he was asked what his similarities were with Ian Gallagher, the character he's playing.
"What I really admire about him is how caring he is, and how important the family unit is for him," he said. "So I guess we have that in common."
2. Meryl Streep is one of his career inspirations.
Streep was his co-star in the film "The Giver," and when he was asked by Interview Magazine about filming scenes with the Hollywood veteran, he said it felt unreal.
"It was one of those things where you admire and respect a person, and you watch them for almost your entire life — and she was definitely one of those people that inspired me throughout my career," the "Gotham" season 2 actor revealed.
3. He learned how to read through subtitles.
"How I learned to read was by reading the captions on TV, and I grew up from a really young age watching tons of movies and television," he shared.
4. He became an actor because he was a hyperactive kid.
"My mom needed some positive way to focus my energy and I said I wanted to be an actor," he revealed.
5. He wanted to be a writer and a director.
"I love to write. Eventually, I do want to direct, but I want to get comfortable in those two jobs [first]," he said.
More of Monaghan's character will be revealed when "Gotham" season 2 premieres on Sept. 21.
