"Fast and Furious 8" is not going to hit theaters until its release date which is Apr. 14, 2017, but it continues to draw in much hype from the FF franchise fans. This week, actors Michelle Rodriguez and Vin Diesel opened up about the developments in the upcoming movie.
Vin Diesel, who was the one to formally confirm that a sequel to "Fast and Furious 7" will be happening, initially talked about the film possibly shooting in Egypt for "Fast and Furious 8." However, the latest revelation about the upcoming movie coincides with what he hinted about at the 2015 MTV VMAs backstage that they are to film the sequel in New York, as per IMDb.
This was even followed by Instagram posts from Diesel and Ludacris that showed an image of the "Fast and Furious 8" with the backdrop of New York City.
Now, when co-star Rodriguez hit Harper's Bazaar Icon Party this week in NYC she revealed to the press that they are to film the sequel in New York. She said, "We were looking at New York, and I think the studio was open to that so keep fingers crossed! It'll be my first movie at home since 'Girl Fight!'"
Well, this could be extra-special for the franchise that is filming in NYC for the first time. As to when filming will start, Michelle said that they are going to start production "next summer."
Rodriguez also opened up about the fact that this would be the first "Fast and Furious" film without Paul Walker. She told E! News: "We need a good reason to move on after Paul. And being that this is a global franchise now, it's not just the American baby, it's important that we consider moving on and take it seriously."
It can be noted that Diesel also gushed about not having Walker in the sequel. "Paul used to say that 8 was guaranteed and, in some ways, when your brother guarantees something, you have to make sure it comes to pass. So, if fate has it - fate, F8 - then you'll get it. Furious 7 was for Paul; 8 is from Paul."
Additionally, Rodriguez also noted that the upcoming "Fast and Furious" installment will follow what Paul had previously asked them to do. "[Paul] wanted to bring it back down to the core, which is the racing. He was always complaining about the special effects and the blue screens," Rodriguez said before adding that Paul's wish was to end the "exaggerated explosions and crazy plot lines," as quoted by People.
Paul Walker passed away on Nov. 30, 2013 after getting into a car crash. At the time, he was taking a break from filming "Fast and Furious 7."
