Samsung and Apple are going head-to-head as their flagship phablets take the smartphone market by storm this fall. For fans, they'll most likely stick to where their loyalty lies, but for the curious consumers out there, here's a comparison review of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Vs Apple's iPhone 6S Plus to help you finalize that decision on which phone would best meet your needs and wants.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 packs a phablet-worthy 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display that has 1,440 x 2,560 pixel resolution. On the other hand, the iPhone 6S Plus comes with a 5.5-inch IPS LCP with 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. Though the Galaxy Note 5 has a bigger screen, its 6.03 x 3.00 x 0.30-inch footprint is slightly smaller than that of the iPhone 6S Plus which is 6.23 x 3.07 x 0.29 inches. While the Note 5 sports Corning Gorilla Glass 4, the iPhone 6S Plus has ion-strengthened glass, oleophobic coating, as per Digital Trends.
For its body, the large iPhone still sports that unibody design typical of its recent predecessors. One cannot really tell that there is separation between the aluminum frame and the aluminum back. As for the Samsung phablet, it comes with a Gorilla Glass 4 back. Both smartphones do not have removable batteries by the way. Speaking of batteries, the Note 5 has a 3,000 mAh unit while the iPhone 6S Plus comes with a 2,915 mAh battery.
As for removable parts, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 continues the Note series legacy by sporting a stylus pen which has been redesigned and modified to have a retractable end which is really fun to use since it gives the impression that you are holding a pen.
Both the Galaxy Note 5 and the iPhone 6S Plus sport fingerprint sensors on their physical Home button. However, Apple claims that the Touch ID in the new iPhone is twice as fast as the one found in the phone's predecessors, GizMag has learned.
Then there's the camera technology. As most of us know, Apple's iPhone cameras are really built to deliver quality photos. And Apple knows that most of its users love their smartphone cameras. Thus, it has upsized the cameras in the new phablet by incorporating a 12-megapixel rear-facing shooter and a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper. The Galaxy Note 5 on the other hand has a 16-megapixel back camera and a 5-megapixel front one.
In terms of processors, the iPhone 6S Plus delivers efficient performance with its Apple A9 chip with two cores clocked at 2GHz. On the contrary, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 comes with an Exynos 7420 Octa-core processor running at 1.5GHz. When it comes to RAM, the Note 5 has 4GB while the iPhone 6S Plus has 2GB.
Both smartphones come in storage-based variants. For the Apple phablet, there's the 16GB, the 64Gb and the 128GB model. The Note 5 has the 32GB and the 64GB model. Sadly, both smartphones do not have storage expansion via microSD, as reported by NeruroGadget.
The Note 5 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with a TouchWiz-based UI out of the box. Meanwhile, the iPhone 6S Plus runs on Apple's all-new iOS 9. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 retails at $700 for the unlocked version, while the iPhone 6S Plus is expected to retail at $750.
