"Vampire Diaries" hunky actor Ian Somerhalder is the proud founder of the Ian Somerhalder Foundation and "Twilight" star Nikki Reed is the proud wife, co-advocate and supporter of her husband's conservationist endeavors.

Ahead of the Season 7 premiere of the vampire-themed CW series, Somerhalder and Reed took to social media to share a heart-breaking documentary they did with 21 Icons founder, photographer and filmmaker Adrian Stern.

On Tuesday, Nina Dobrev's ex-boyfriend shared the teaser clip about rhinos poaching on his Instagram account captioning it with words like "This story must be told!" and "Change comes from you. From us." The Damon Salvatore actor also singled that what poachers do to rhinoceros is "senseless killing."

Later, Somerhalder shared a snap of him showing his arm that has the hashtag "#HopeForRhinos" written from his first to his forearm. The small screen actor's caption this time is a lengthy message that is calling for support to spare the rhinos from poachers.

On the same day, Somerhalder's wife, Nikki Reed also shared the same clip on her social media account but captioned it differently. She wrote: "In honor of #WorldRhinoDay I'd like to share something very special with all of you. The story of Hope is one that will stay with you forever. This film I am producing along with @adriansteirn is the most brutally honest depiction of what is happening daily on our planet to animals we love, animals we need, and animals who need us...we just don't know it. Help us save the rhino, help us save ourselves. What we do to them we do to ourselves.
#HopeForRhinos."

Both Somerhadler and Reed are asking for donations for their advocacy, and they are asking people to send them to Ryot.org, an American media company that focuses on cause-based actions. It was founded in 2012.

Somerhalder's Ian Somerhalder Foundation has partnered with RYOT to increase awareness on rhinoceros poaching. On the About page of Ian's foundation website, it is stated there that the organization sees no "differentiation between all living things: trees, rivers, animals and humans. We are all one interdependent organism."

Apart from advocating animal rights, Somerhalder is also busy filming for the upcoming season of The CW's "Vampire Diaries," which is now on its seventh run on national TV.

Meanwhile, Somerhalder's ex Nina Dobrev has expressed her excitement over the upcoming season of the show which she is not a part of anymore after bidding farewell to the cast and crew last season.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dobrev said, "I can't wait to see what the new season will look like. I'll be watching. I'm very excited for my friends."

For fans of the series who are still hoping for an Elena-Damon reunion however, Dobrev set the record straight when she said, "That chapter is closed, sadly — bittersweet."

Catch the premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 this Fall on Oct. 8.
